The Clash was formed in 1976 in London, England. For most of their music career, the main group consisted of Joe Strummer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (lead guitar, vocals), Paul Simonon (bass guitar, vocals), and Nicky “Topper” Headon (drums).
Their music showed a leftist ideology, and Strummer was a committed leftist. They were against the monarchy and aristocracy, and were often involved in many liberation movements, including the Anti-Nazi League and played in the Rock Against Racism concert in London’s Victoria Park. Although they are not a true anarchist band, they exemplified many of the same ideals that are in anarchist thought.
